Sea Kayaking and Kids

Its hard to believe that the years pass so swiftly, yet as I sit on this night in October some years ans quite a few miles laterI think about the day we launched from Charlie's that cool fall morning. The years have seen us paddle many streams and on the tributaries of the Chesapeake the days seem like yesterday.
Josh has emerged from a novice to an accomplished paddler. In 1998 the journey I made for him and other kids and may find myself making that type of trek again. Saddened somewhat that many people view these craft as only summer boats and yet many days were spent both in fall, winter and spring.
Kids love the water and when the discovery of sea kayaking hits them the enthusiasm never dwindles. As to boats he has kind of outgrew his Piccolo and moved up to a 15'-8' Dagger Seeker from the many boats we have. yet his interest is always there.
The Discovery of the "Dunkirk" ferry where we first found it in 2005 and his paddler's curiousity now discussions of long treks and overnights spent camping and days paddling. The bond that forms between a parent and a child that grwos stronger and deeper from the events of water shared and the adventures into small coves and cays, rivers and bays...
The times we spent on the Roanoke and Potomac, the Mattaponi and the James, days spent on the creek in my research area and the sights and sounds we discovered....
Want to discover something try sea kayaking and do it with your kids you will enjoy it twice as much, I guarantee it...
